Everyone at Toyota near Irvine is glad that the day has finally arrived that we get to know more about the all-new Toyota Tundra. And just as the Toyota dealer near Irvine expected, the next generation Tundras are going to be bigger and offer a different powertrain.
Some of us were lucky enough to see a reveal photo of the 2022 Tundra TRD Pro, and we love the exaggerated front-end design with clean-cut lighting elements. Also, there are three amber running lights integrated into the grille, which all vehicles should have that are more than 80 inches wide since it is a legal requirement.
The guys at Toyota near Irvine have heard some buzz that Toyota might replace the old truck’s 381 horsepower V-8 with a twin-turbo V-6 that produces over 400 ponies. Additionally, a hybrid powertrain could be available as well. The new Tundra will probably feature a redesigned rear-suspension setup for an improved ride, and there may be an all-electric model too!
What’s Under The Hood?
Some at Toyota near Irvine say that the 2022 Tundra could be the only full-size pickup truck with no V-8 engine. So, Toyota might rectify this by supplementing the previous generation’s 381 horsepower naturally aspirated 5.7-liter V-8 with a twin-turbocharged V-6 generating up to 400 horsepower. The possibility of a hybrid version has everyone buzzing as well.
Ultimately, whatever power source Toyota decides to put into the Tundra, it will be specifically tuned for pickup truck service. The new Tundra may differ from its predecessor with its rear suspension, which used to have a leaf-spring setup. There is a huge possibility that the next generation could have more refined coil springs, air springs, or even possibly an independent rear suspension.
The Tundra should be one of the first vehicles on a new Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform for body-on-frame trucks, which will also underpin the Sequoia, Tacoma, and 4Runner. The new platform should transform the Tundra into lighter-weight construction materials and improve ride quality and safety.
What’s New For The 2022 Tundra’s Interior?
There is a lot of hype that the 2022 Toyota Tundra’s interior will have a larger screen. This improvement is most likely to happen since Toyota wants to compete with rival models which offer 12.0-inch screens.
Toyota recently showed an image of the 2022 Tundra’s interior. In the photo, you can clearly see a large center-mounted touchscreen, which can compete with its rivals that have available 12.0-inch screens.
The Japanese car company clearly understands that if they want their new Tundra full-size pickup truck to compete with contenders on the marketplace, it will have to greatly improve the interior. A large central touchscreen is important, and Toyota is revealing from its teaser photo of the new truck’s interior that it’s not playing games when it comes to making it stand out.
What Did The Teaser Photo Reveal?
The teaser photo that is doing the rounds on the internet shows the top of the new Tundra’s dashboard, and by the looks of things, it seems to be the same as the TRD Pro model that Toyota showed off last week. Two JBL speakers are firmly fixed inside the A-pillars, and the steering wheel has a red stripe atop the steering wheel, most probably exclusive to the TRD Pro model. The main feature is the large center-mounted touchscreen, which has Apple CarPlay displayed in this photo.
The current Tundra comes standard with a 7.0-inch touchscreen, but there is an 8.0-inch unit available. The new truck is going to be a lot larger so it can compete with rival’s available 12.0-inch screens. A smaller screen will probably be standard on the new Tundra.
The New Tundra Could Have Better Towing Capacity
The 2021 Tundra has five-lug wheels. The new Tundra seems to have six-lug wheels, which strongly suggests Toyota plans to enhance the current model’s 10,200-pound towing and 1,730-pound payload capacity.

The new Toyota Tundra will probably be slightly expensive to what we are used to with previous Tundra models. The reason being is that the new Tundra will have many improvements and additional features such as the hybrid engine, which does increase the price point. At the moment, the Tundra reaches its zenith with the Platinum trim, beginning at just over $52,000. That hardly is above the average price paid for a new pickup.
The Current Toyota Tundra
