The Toyota dealers in Orange County missed the Supra terribly when the Japanese car company decided to pause this cult classic sportscar production. Although the Toyota Supra has now established familiarity with today’s generation, it is still the darling of the sports car sector.
Although the Toyota Supra has the same powertrain as its Bavarian competitor, it has its own panache and personality.
Driving
The 2022 Toyota Supra has two turbocharged engines, a standard 255 horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder, and an optional 382 horsepower 3.0-liter inline-six. The pair fuel the rear wheels through a speedy eight-speed automatic transmission. The Supra’s cabin is comfy, and some customers at the Toyota dealers in Orange County may say it is exceptionally superior. And this is because its parts are similar to its German luxury doppelganger.
For 2022, Toyota decided to up the ante with a new limited-edition trim for 2022 called A91-CF, which indicates Carbon Fiber. The Japanese car company will only build 600 of them, and all will be decked out with a carbon-fiber body kit, matte black 19-inch wheels, a rear spoiler, and red and black interior upholstery.
Toyota of Orange, an Orange County Toyota dealer, reveals that the A91-CF Edition is available in three exterior colors: Phantom (matte gray), Absolute Zero White, and Nitro Yellow. Everywhere else, the Supra attains standard heated seats in 3.0 models, a fresh red interior scheme for the 3.0 Premium, and full-screen Apple CarPlay for those furnished with the optional JBL stereo system.
Even though you can still enjoy driving the four-cylinder Supra 2.0, some car buyers at Toyota dealers in Orange County will find that the snappy acceleration of the six-cylinder 3.0 is worth the extra cost. The Supra comes with an optional Driver Assist package, which slaps on adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-keeping assist. Plus, every Supra gets a one-year membership to the National Auto Sport Association and a complimentary day at a high-performance driving event.
If you plan to do a lot of high-performance driving with your Supra, you may find that the Driver Assist package is more annoying than beneficial; and the money you save by not dishing out for it can be spent on more track time and spare tires!
If you are looking for fuel efficiency in your next sports car, the Supra with the turbocharged four-cylinder engine achieves EPA ratings of 25 mpg in the city, and 32 mpg on the highway is one to look out for. The Supra 3.0’s ratings are nothing to overlook either. It fetches 22 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway.
Technology
When looking at features and equipment, the 2022 Supra has an 8.8-inch touchscreen that comes standard. Standard features include:
- Dual-zone climate control.
- Rain-sensing wipers.
- Auto-dimming rearview mirror.
- Cruise control.
- Electric parking brake.
- A rearview camera.
- Carbon-fiber interior trim.
However, the wireless Apple CarPay is only compatible with the Premium and A91 models. Remarkably, Android Auto doesn’t make an appearance with any 2022 Supra model.
The 2.0 has eight-way manually adjustable front seats, while the six-cylinder versions have 14-way electrically adjustable seats. The Premium and A91 are geared with additional features such as heated seats and a wireless phone charger. The A91 doesn’t receive a head-up display, but it’s a standard fixed item in the Premium.
The Premium and A91 come equipped with a 12-speaker JBL surround sound system as standard. The base 2.0 versions receive four speakers, while the 3.0 version comes with a 10-speaker system. The JBL system is one of the extras found on the optional Safety and Technology pack offered for the 2.0 and 3.0 versions.
Driver assistance systems such as Pre-Collision Alert with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Warning, and automatic high beams are standard. Adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, parking sensors with emergency braking function make up the Driver Assist Package. In the 2.0 and 3.0 variants, you automatically get all of these systems when you tick the Safety and Technology pack checkbox.
Comfort
The cockpit was more designed for driving rather than for comfort, so you will find that it is snug. Also, you will notice that the double-bubble roof offers some extra headroom, taller drivers will feel confined. You will also find that the cargo space is small, but the cargo area, which you can access through a hatchback, has enough room for a few carry-on suitcases or around a week’s worth of groceries for two. Ultimately, it would be best to remember that Toyota built the Supra to be a hard-core performance car, hence the two seats. When measured, its cargo volume is 10.2 cubic feet which isn’t that bad considering the Supra is a sports car, after all.
When you step inside the Supra, you can see it resembles its German counterpart. The influence is evident in its dashboard design, infotainment screen, or better quality and outstanding fit-and-finish buttons.
So far, we know that Toyota is offering the 2.0 and 3.0 versions with black Alcantra/leather-trimmed sports seats, while the 3.0 Premium has black leather sports seats. The A91 Edition receives black/blue Alcantara with leather-trimmed seats and contrast blue stitching. Also, the Premium and A91 get sporty stainless steel pedals.
Overall
The 2022 Toyota Supra is an affordable, stylish, high-quality performance car that you can’t ignore. If you like to race around the track and have a good-looking fast car to drive around daily, you should think about getting this fantastic sports car.
