The image clearly shows sharp angles and bold lines, with hatchet-shaped headlights and two sets of LED running lights.
Also, there is a light bar stretching across the middle of the grille where the model before had a “Toyota” badge. Plus, there are three amber marker lights above the grille that makes many assume that the new Tundra could be more than 80 inches wide. The pickup truck that was spotted around was a crew-cab model with a short bed and six lug wheels.
The New Tundra May Do Away With The V8 Engine
For the Toyota Tundra to keep up with its competition, it has to get more efficient. A big part of that involves the disposal of the archaic 5.7-liter V8. There has been a lot of speculation that the Tundra, just like the 300-Series Land Cruiser, will use the twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 that is presently being used in the Lexus LS 500. Also, we are all expecting Toyota to follow its competitors and include a hybrid option. Ultimately, all Toyota models will have one by 2025. Additionally, there is also talk that Toyota may give the Tundra an eight or ten-speed automatic transmission to replace the current six-speed.
The Tundra Will Operate On A New TNGA Platform
The Toyota Tundra is one of the first vehicles that is going to be placed on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform for body-on-frame trucks. This will be the same faith for the Sequoia, Tacoma, and 4Runner. The whole reason for putting the Tundra on this new platform is to change the pickup truck into lighter-weight construction materials and enhance the ride quality as well as safety. Furthermore, the Tundra may switch from leaf-spring to coil-spring suspension.
The New Toyota Tundra Will Probably Cost More $$$
Since Toyota is going all out to improve the Tundra, adding features such as a hybrid engine will definitely increase America’s favorite pickup truck. The highest Tundra trim that is currently available is the Platinum, and it starts at just over $52,000. That is almost above the average price paid for a new pickup truck. We should expect to see that the new Tundra pricing could be more like its competition which is between $56,000 to $70,000 for Limited trims.
The New Tundra Will Probably Have Better Towing And Payload Capacity
At the moment, the 2021 Tundra has five-lug wheels. Spy photos of the new Tundra have revealed that the 2022 model will have six-lug wheels, which could only mean Toyota plans to improve the current model’s 10,200 pound towing and 1,730-pound payload capacity.

If you need a full-size pickup truck now, the 2021 Toyota Tundra is offered in six trim levels: SR, SR5, Limited, Platinum, 1794 Edition, and TRD Pro. The new Nightshade Special Edition and Trail Edition packages are optional on certain trims. The Tundra is available in double-cab, crew-cab, and the larger CrewMax configurations with three available bed lengths. No matter which Tundra you opt for, the truck is powered by a 5.7-liter V8 engine that produces 381 horsepower and 401 pound-feet of torque and is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard, and four-wheel drive is optional.
